Course
Start on the upper playing fields facing north-west just beyond the row of trees to your right. Make one full lap of the field staying outside of the baseball field backstop and the back of right field and then turn down the hill towards the school just past the stand of trees. Head through the parking lot and turn right on Crowell Road. Turn right on to Stepping Stones Road and at the end of Stepping Stones, turn right on to Old Queen Anne. Cutting the corners at both Stepping Stones Road intersections is permitted. Stay on the sidewalk down Old Queen Anne Road and then turn right on to Skyline Drive. Bear right as you climb Great Hill and at the top of the hill turn left on to N. Skyline Drive. Follow the loop around the top of the hill and bear left on to Horizon Drive. Bear left towards the water towers in to Horizon Circle and continue through the trees to the path down to the school fields. Be alert for roots and rocks on this unmaintained trail. Upon reaching the field, turn right and complete a 3/4 lap of the field, finishing just past the stand of trees to your right.
Special Notes
With more road than cross-country on this 2.8 mile course, it nevertheless remains exceptionally challenging with several steep climbs that greet runners at Stepping Stones Road and Skyline Drive. The cross-country portions include 1.75 laps of the playing field (a track used to encircle part of the upper field, its impression still visible in the grass) and a quick dash on an unmaintained trail through the woods between Horizon Circle and the fields. The downhill section through the woods can be particularly challenging with recent rainfall. Chatham High School hasn't fielded a cross-country team for several years and interested students are encouraged to run for the Harwich/Cape Tech team. For an extra workout, consider some hill repeats between the upper and lower playing fields.
Getting There
Take Route 6 to exit 11 and head South on Route 137 to Route 28. Turn left on Route 28 towards Chatham. At the stop light, turn left on to Crowell Road. Chatham High School is on the left about a mile from the stop light. There is plenty of parking available in the school parking lots.
