On December 28th, Dari Whitehouse set off from the Cape Cod Rail Trail trailhead in Dennis for her 50 Reasons Run, a 50 mile run to celebrate “100’s of reasons to feel grateful for big & small blessings in [her] life.” Here’s her run report!

If you know me, you know that I’ve battled cancer for the 5th time in 25 years this year.  You also know I love to run.  If you didn’t know me before now, you know this about me at least.  Two of my many running goals for 2013 were to run 2000 miles & also complete a 50 miler to celebrate my 50th birthday back in May.  After a DNF at a 50-mile trail/mud fest in June when a health crisis pulled me off the course, I knew I was running out of time to meet this goal and took it upon myself to create an event that I could share with my friends who have accompanied me through my treatment journey this year.  I named this run, "Dari’s 50 Reasons Run" because on any given day, I can think of 100’s of reasons to feel grateful for big & small blessings in my life.  However, when things get tough like they sometimes do when you are not feeling well during cancer treatment, I wanted to remind myself just how much I really do have in spite of my health issues.

I’m running the 2014 Boston Marathon for AMAA- help me reach my fundraising goal!

My name is Mary Vanderminden and I am a member of the race committee for the Firecracker 4.

Our organization is a 501c3 not-for profit donating proceeds to encourage health & fitness within the community.

We are planning our 9th annual road race on July 4th, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the beautiful city of Saratoga Springs, NY.  The race distance is a USATF certified 4 mile course.

We will again be hosting the USATF Adirondack Team Championship race along with the 4 mile Grand Prix.

This year we are targeting 4,000 runners.  We will liven things up by having more than a dozen live musical venues along the course!

We would like to get the word out about our race to interested runners.  If you have a calendar it would be great if you would list us.

The race is a great value at $25 registration fee until July 2.  We have great shirts, runner bags, vendor village, refreshments and a great band at the start/finish area.  Cash prizes are available and awards are in 5 year age categories.  We also offer team competition.

Create a “Run Your Colors” team.  The team with the most registered runners (running the race optional) will have $1,000 donated in their name to the charity of their choice.

On-line registration and race information is available through our web site, http://www.firecracker4.com/.  Check it out, it’s a great event!
