President’s Message – August

Our irregular meeting on the first Wednesday evening of this month was attended by 32 members who participated in the yoga clinic arranged by Andy Scherding, who suggested we give it a try and avail ourselves of instructor Leslee Trzinscki being on Cape Cod. Well, we did, and it was a great success. Thanks Andy. That’s about twice as many people, mostly runners, who usually attend our regular meetings. To attract more members, perhaps we should start our meetings with a half hour of calisthenics, say, several repetitions of the Army’s Daily Dozen. Incidentally, the yoga session was also a great bargain for the club. Participation in Leslee’s public yoga clinic scheduled some days hence in Wellfleet cost $55 per person.

Bracketing the clinic were the road races in Dennis at the Wixon School on July 28th and in Harwich at the Irish Pub on August 4th. The club was well represented on the courses, in the winnings, and in the post-race activities, at which we excel. Presumably all those qualities will be amply demonstrated at the Brew Run on Saturday and in Falmouth on Sunday. Good luck to all of you running either or both of those races in the predicted thunderstorms, and to those heading to Iceland later in the month. We’ll expect a full report about your recovery in the Blue Lagoon.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Adam Ross, reports that the club received a check for $1000 from Larry Belliveau for club members’ support of the Chatham Harbor Run. That’s an increase of $250 over last year, and a welcome augmentation to the treasury.

Not meaning to rush the end of summer, but note that we have a busy schedule in early September. As usual, we will hold our bring-all-your-own-stuff (chairs, food drink, towels, whatever) gathering at Corporation Beach in Dennis on Labor Day afternoon. Our regular monthly meeting on the 5th will focus on the pros and cons, bits and bytes of relying on electronic media for internal communication. And on September 7th and 8th, we are requested to supply workers at Sprint II at Craigville Beach. The race director has asked for five people on the 7th and 15 people on the 8th. The deal would be the same as previously: the proceeds will go to the Brazil children’s education fund. Please let me know if you are available and willing to work one of those days. I will be on duty on the Friday before the race, as I have a race on 8th.
