The end of another summer rapidly approacheth and we bid adieu with our regular frivolity and joviality –

:: End of summer cookout – byo stuff to Smuggler’s Beach (Bass River Beach) in S. Yarmouth (NOT Corporation Beach!) on Sunday, 2 September.  Parking is free after 4PM. Bring a volleyball, food, drink, towels and other beach toys … and maybe go for a run on the YPD course followed by a jump in the Sound?

:: Club meetings return on 5 September – 7PM at the Dennis Senior Center on Route 134.  We’ll be catching up on summer happenings, making plans for fall and winter events and discussing other fun club stuff.  Pizza and drinks will be provided.  After the main meeting, the Board of Directors will have a short meeting to discuss various business matters.

:: Volunteers needed!  We’ll be helping out with NETT Sprint II just as we did earlier this season with NETT Sprint I.  Help is requested for setup on 7 September and race day support on 8 September.  The club earns $$ for each volunteer and we’ll be donating the proceeds to the David Brazil Educational Fund in memory of our late teammate.  Contact Larry Cole at coleslaw1@verizon.net if you can help.

:: All club members are invited to Harbor Lights on 81 Underpass Road in Brewster for a free round of miniature golf courtesy of Sharyn Greenleaf and friends on 9 September.  The fun starts at 4PM and runs through the final hole.  Anyone for speed-mini-golf?

:: Congrats to all those who stuck out a tremendously challenging weather weekend for the Brew Run and Falmouth.  The rain let up just in time for the humidity to really sock it to the crowd at Falmouth!  The club was well represented at Falmouth with a couple of AG podiums: Joe Navas (37:59), 3rd 40-49; Bill Riley (51:54), 1st 75-100; and Ken Gartner (40:59), 3rd 50-59 … and in support of teams like Team Big Nick and Team Jud.  And of course the club was out strong at the Woodshed!  Age group top-3s in Brewster included Ashlynne Xiarhos, Dawn Varnum, Janet Kelly, Pat Nally, Lucy Duffy, Josh Curtis, Paul Hufnagel, Duke Hutchinson and Larry Cole.

:: In other racing news, fifteen club members took on either the Olympic or Sprint distance triathlon Nationals in Burlington, VT over the weekend of 18-19 August.  Our teammates finished as follows:

Olympic

2:23  Sarah Newcomb – Qualified for World Championships!
2:28  Geoffrey Lowe – Qualified for World Championships!
   2:35  Ali Winslow
2:41  Gene Cormier – Qualified for World Championships!
   2:44  Terry Walsh
2:53  Rich Chretien
2:57  Aliicia Furrer

Sprint

1:17  Dwight Pfundstein
1:18  Katie McCully – Qualified as Alternate for World Championships!
   1:19  Andy Scherding
1:21  Kathleen Thomas – Qualified for World Championships!
   1:23  Kyle Farrell
1:23  Dan Carroll
1:24  Jim McNally
1:27  Adam Ross – Qualified for World Championships!

The AG World Championships will be held in London in 2013.

:: The CCAC will be taking on top local clubs at this year’s Invitational Challenge, part of the Cape Cod Marathon Relay, courtesy of the Falmouth Track Club.  We’ll be fielding three open teams – men’s, women’s and mixed.  If you’re interested in participating as part of a CCAC team, please contact Bill Masterson at wmasterson@capecod.net.

:: Fall races continue to pour in for the calendar.  We’ve updated the calendar through the end of October but continue to check regularly as we’re changing constantly.

:: Want to host a Grand Prix race?  Put your bids in now to host 100 or so sweaty, hungry runners and their friends for a club Winter Grand Prix race.  Contact Larry Cole at coleslaw1@verizon.net to be considered.
