It’s time for the annual election of officers and the bi-annual election of board members for the 2012-2013 club year. If you’d like to have a voice on club initiatives and how the CCAC promotes healthy lifestyles on Cape Cod and the Islands, please consider serving the club. All positions are open for nomination and the vote will be held at the monthly meeting at the Dennis Senior Center on Route 134 at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 4th. Currently nominated for positions are:

Larry Cole – president
Howard Tansey – vice president
Mary Ellen Ross – secretary
Adam Ross – treasurer
Dwight Pfundstein – board

If you’d like to be considered for a position, drop a note of your interest to ccac@capecodathleticclub.org before Wednesday evening.

After elections, join us for “Getting The Most From Your Endurance Training,” an in-depth discussion of training plans, nutrition, quality vs. quantity, recovery and more, with former Xterra World Champion triathlete Candy Angle. The talk is free to all club members and their guests.

PRESS RELEASE, FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MARCH 2012 CONTACT: Cheryl Osimo Director of Events & Communication cosimo@mbcc.org 508-246-3047

NEW “SPLASH AND DASH” AQUATHLON EVENT AT THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY OF AGAINST THE TIDE

New for the 20th anniversary of the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition’s (MBCC) Against the Tide event is the first ever Against the Tide Aquathlon! The Aquathlon is a “splash and dash” event. First, “splash” in the 1-mile competitive swim, then immediately following, “dash” onto your choice of a 5K or 10K competitive run.

In addition to the new Aquathlon, the recreational 1-mile swim, recreational 2-mile kayak, recreational 3-mile walk, and recreational or competitive 5K or 10K run are still available to participants in any combination. Please see the schedule online at www.mbcc.org/swim for details. At this website you can also register for your choice of any of the competitive or recreational event offerings — in any combination.

The family-friendly, statewide morning event brings people from all demographics and of all abilities together with one goal in mind: breast cancer prevention. Proceeds benefit MBCC, which is a grassroots advocacy organization that supports research to find links between breast cancer and the environment in order to work toward preventing the disease in the first place.

“We are very fortunate to have such tremendous support from citizens of Massachusetts demanding greater protection of their children’s future health in our effort to stop breast cancer before it starts,” says MBCC’s Director of Events & Communication Cheryl Osimo. “MBCC often is overshadowed by the larger national breast cancer organizations, and we depend on our generous supporters to continue our work.”

The Against the Tide event will be held at DCR’s Hopkinton State Park on June 23rd in Hopkinton, MA (20 miles from Worcester, 30 miles from Boston) and again at DCR’s Nickerson State Park on August 18th in Brewster, MA (Cape Cod). For more information and to register or make a pledge, please visit www.mbcc.org/swim.

While running marathons would never be physically effective to lose weight, if they were the psychological motivation to eat at a set regimen, I can see it, having run them at such disparate weights as 218 to …152?. Probably nobody on this list thinks more about this than I do. For myself, but especially for the folks I coach. Some extremely weight-challenged. Tonight is the final night of the 21st week of our twice-weekly (Tues, Thurs) Runthruthewintercrew classes at the Osterville Historical Museum here on Cape Cod. A motley crew, you might say, ranging in age from 10 to 71, fat & skinny, I love them all, and all very successful when you measure by the "real" sense of sticking it out through all kinds of weather. Motivation comes in so many different shapes and sizes, so different for everyone, but doing things together is always the lowest common denominator; perhaps having a goal the next.

5K Race in Hingham – April 7th, 10am @ Wompatuck St. Park

Dear Running Clubs,

We are a new running club starting up on the South Shore/Boston area, and looking for runners on our first race. It will be on Saturday April 7th @ 10am and will consist of a 1Mile Family Fun run and then a 5K race at 10:30am. You can sign up at
rocktherace.net or http://www.active.com/running/hingham-ma/beat-the-bunny-5k-2012

Another thing – To spice things up a bit, we are offering $25 cash to the first member to cross the finish line for each club (minimum 5 club members must run in race) We would love to see some awesome competitive runners turn out, so to encourage this we wanted to offer the little prize in there. So come out and enjoy this little pre-Boston M. fun run and support a little ol running club trying to get off the ground.

Free race T, Free milk shakes from B-Good burgers, and free chocolate to all those who "beat the bunny" that will be running in the race (Yes, there will be someone rocking a bunny suit for the race, and if you beat him you will get chocolate:)

Run on friends,

– Luke Dodge/RockTheRace Crew
