The Harwich Fire Department will be having a benefit dinner for Captain Robert Johnson, recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, on 28 February at the Resort & Conference Center in Hyannis. Captain Johnson has served on the Harwich force for over 25 years. The benefit will feature a silent auction, live auction, buffet, live music and dancing and tickets are $60 per person, available at HFD headquarters on Sisson Road or on-line. On Sunday, 22 February, Go Bald For Bobby at the Harwich Community Center on Oak Street. A $5 donation will get you a “nice close shave” and all proceeds will benefit the Robert Johnson Benevolent Fund. It’s not an IronMan but it’s a start! Nantucket board of selectmen voted final approval for Bill Burnett’s Nantucket Triathlon on Wednesday evening and registration for the race opened immediately afterwards. This sprint distance race, the first multisport event outside of the Nantucket Iron Teams that the island has seen in many years, will debut on Saturday, 11 July and is expected to fill quickly. This Wednesday, 18 Feb, Bill Burnett, founder and race director of several local triathlons including Cohasset, Marlborough and Gloucester, will be going before the Nantucket board of selectmen seeking final approval for a Nantucket Triathlon to be held 11 July 2009.
