Fellow ACK TRI members-

I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of the Swim Across America swim on July 22 – 3 weeks from today.  There will be a 1/2 mile and a 1 mile open water swim.  The goal of this swim is to have fun and to raise as much money for SAA as possible.  They have raised over $40 million for cancer research.  A portion of the proceeds from the Nantucket event will go to the Nantucket Cottage Hospital and Palliative and Supportive Care of Nantucket Foundation (PASCON).  If this event is successful and becomes an annual event, this will raise even more money for our local beneficiaries.

This swim is near and dear to my heart as my husband Steve (many of you know him), also a swimmer, was diagnosed with melanoma this past December.   I know many people have had their lives touched by cancer either yourself or loved ones, but I wouldn't wish these last 6 months we have had on anyone!  PASCON was a life savor to us – as well as the oncologists at Dana Farber -where SAA has donated millions of dollars.

So, PLEASE commit to doing something – either swimming, volunteering, sponsoring a swimmer, forming a team, cheering others on, and if you are going to register please do it SOON!

Please check it out —- it is a great way to give back to this wonderful community and to show the community how sincere our Triathlon club is by supporting one other.  Someone has started a Nantucket Triathlon Club team or you can start your own team and swim in honor or memory of a loved one.

Please let me know if you have any specific questions about the swim, I will try to answer them for you.

See you at Jettie’s — thank you!

Subject: FW: 2012 Nantucket Rock Run
To: robertlaundrycpa@gmail.com

Hi Bob:

Can you send this out to the BPR list?

Nantucket Rock Run

Dear Rock Run Supporter or Participant:

You have been identified as a long-time Nantucket Rock Run supporter or participant and we wanted to let you know that we are excited to bring to you the 2012 Rock Run.

The 2012 race is ON.

As you may know the last year has brought some unavoidable changes to the race permitting requirements and required the move of the usual Rock Run race start one (1) month from August 1 to September 1.  This had to be done to keep the race going on its original race course and to satisfy various conservation groups that own and manage more than 14 miles of the beach on which the race runs.  Without this date change, simply put, the race was over.  You can't have a Rock Run and not use Coatue, the Galls, the Haulover and the beach all the way down to Sesasquecha Pond.

I have gladly donated my time to permitting and arranging this event and I am committed to carrying on the strong tradition of this race and carrying the torch to continue building the event back to its former glory (I even tried to get Town to let us do the swim ACROSS the channel from Brant Point to start the race – they politely said "no").  I've done ½ of this race as a solo three (3) times and never been able to finish so I have the utmost respect for the athletes who can get it done.  Rumor has it that an OG Lifeguard Team – including members who were FOUNDERS of the race might be putting a team together. . .  we'll see.

In any case, your help, support and participation are needed!

Race day is Saturday, September 1st.  Solo's start at 6 AM and teams start at 7:00 AM.

If you plan to participate, PLEASE register quickly as the race field is limited to just 25 teams (unlimited solos!) in this rebuilding year, and also please remember that 100% of the Rock Run race proceeds go to the Fingerprints Corp., the same 501(c)(3) designated entity that has always donated Rock Run proceeds to youth-based activities on Nantucket.  Neither myself nor anyone affiliated with the race gets paid anything for putting this all together – we just want the Rock Run tradition to continue.

Please go here for more information on signing up: www.therockrun.com

If you want to volunteer or just make a donation,  please email me directly at

Thank you so much for your interest and if you know someone else who may be interested – forward this to them!
